When is the last time you took a risk? How did it work out?
Art is the place I go to take risks and be bold. Last night, at Mike Fardy’s comedy album recording show, I took 2 big risks:
- I did a mime act for the first 3 minutes of an audio recording
- I roasted Mike (with love)
Why mime: I have been doing stand up for years and I am always seeking ways to keep it new and fresh. Also I didn’t have any other material.
Why roast: Mike is a hilarious man, one of the sharpest improv minds on the planet. He only has 1 weakness: Compliments. If you say nice things about him he caves in. Implodes like a gangly, bespecled sinkhole. The only thing I have seen phase this man is a kind word.
So I did a reverse-roast, and showered him with praise, and set him up for failure by doing the only thing that makes this man sweat. Of course he still did incredible, because he is the funniest human alive and he is at his best when he is given a challenge.
I am really grateful I got that chance to perform with him on this and I am very excited to share his album when it comes out!
