Last Year to This Year: 2025 to 2026

Last January I set goals for 2025. At some point during the year, I forgot I did that. Whoops!

Let’s see how far along I got with last year’s attempt at productivity and 1) check if I accomplished any of my goals, 2) examine why I got those results, and 3) plan where to go next.

Note: The percentages for the results are guesstimates 😛

1. Stop Being So Down On Myself

Result: 70%

This year, I’m gonna try out confidence.

Last year, I attempted to banish Cynical Hater!Veronica so I could make room for CoolSexyFun!Veronica. I wish I could say I was surprised AngryDepressedStressed!Vero showed up instead, but she always comes by eventually.

I do think I was cool, sexy, and fun at least occasionally, though, and less bad for less time than in previous years.

My Sexiest: Wearing my slutty tank top at NL SketchFest

My Funnest: Improv at the Autism Society of NL

My Coolest: Opening for Bree Parsons for her album, “Delicate Delinquent.”

LESSON: Be more specific about what I want.

2. Make More Stuff

Result: 82%

This goal was actually 3 goals: Produce More, Blog More, and Write More. Write More was also 3 tasks – 1 new script, new 10 minute set, 1 novel. So this 1 task is actually 5.

Looooooool

I obviously didn’t set myself up for success on this. I overburdened the goal — a frequent pitfall of mine. Consequently, I did not prep for how challenging all these tasks were. But considering how insanely unrealistic this goal was, I did more than I expected.

2A. Producing

My goal was 1 show a month. Depending on what you count as a “show,” I met that goal.

IRL shows: 3. Judith Drugan (solo), Team Building Exercise & Q2 (with Itty Bitty Skitty Committee).

Online Shows: 8 episodes of The Means of Producing (solo)

I also did some streaming (A Dark Room), which I’d like to continue in the winter.

Goal 2A Result: I produced more than ever before! 12 total. Pretty good! 90%

2B. Blogging

Goal here was to update this site at least once per month. I did that by doing goal planning, then writing letters to myself 1 week in the future. It helped, but then I stopped. (Why? Dunno. Good first start, but lost it in the second half. September dropped me; I had to stop working on my arts projects and tackle an urgent personal issue, and I lost motivation after that. I did still publish every month except November. I updated HBZ that month, so if that counts, then I crushed this goal. Let’s count it!

Goal 2B Result: 100%

2C. Writing

Write More: By the end of the year, I’d like to have a new decent 10, most of my novel, and maybe a new script

2C-i: I don’t have an entirely new tight 10, but I do have over 10 min of new jokes and material I’m working on. 60%

2C-ii: Flat nope. 10%

2C-iii: I do have a new script! Scripts, even. I wrote a buncha sketches and a short film and some tv episodes. 100%

Goal 2C Result: 57%

LESSON: Don’t overburden a goal

3. Exercise

Result: 80%

Stay Alive 2025!

Hm. This is up and down. I moved more and I spent time planning nutritional meals — which is not easy, nutritional information is complicated, man.

I lost 15 lbs from last January to this January (with some ups and downs along the way), but it is such a battle to stay motivated and say no to cravings. It was also hard to log my progress — having an easier to way to log my activity and compare my result would maybe keep me motivated.

But, writing it out like that, it is still progress. There’s room for improvement, but this was an achieved goal, and I can achieve more.

LESSON: Find a better way to track my progress

4. Share

Result: 100%

Just want to get more out there – videos, podcasts, streams, festivals, whatever.

Yup! I did live streams, podcasts, festivals, blogs, and regular in-person shows. I met people in real life, went to networking events and business events. I put myself out there and it felt good.

LESSON: Just do it.

Arts Projects

I had 2 big projects I wanted to get done in 2025. Disappointingly, I did not finish either – though I did a lot of work. I did other arts projects this year, too, but man. I wanted these.

1. I Kill Myself: The Comic!

Done… to a point. I did the Arts Grant portion of the project, but I wanted to get the whole thing done. I’m, let’s say, 55% of the way to published, which is up from 0%, but not there yet.

2. Judith Drugan: Lesbian Exorcist

Started the year hoping I’d do a monthly show to make myself write. Didn’t do the shows, didn’t write the book. Let’s say I’m 15% of the way there. Up from 10%, but not close to done.

LESSON: Priority means “the thing that has to get done first.” Can’t have two priorities.

2025 OVERALL RESULTS:

Goals: 83%

Projects: 20%

Final Thoughts and Future Plans

This year was tough, January 2025 Veronica. It had beauty, it had joy, but it was hard. I think the next few years we’re in for are also gonna be hard. More work. But as you can see, we are capable of work. And this is just the self-directed stuff. I did so much more than just this.

Notes: Less is more. Be concise and direct. No more Matroishka goals. Set SMART goals – none of the goals last year had timelines and some were unrealistic, for example.

And have more fun!

Action Item: Come up with some goals for 2026 (done, will post soon)!
