Bio
Veronica Dymond is an award-winning writer from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Her work is known for being queer, playful, silly, and honest – except when it’s not.
Since 2013, Vero has been a working stand-up comedian, performing with Newfoundland comedy titans like Mary Walsh, Shaun Majumder, and Matt Wright. She was a two-time finalist of Last Comic Standing NL, is featured on the JFL Originals album “Infinity Plus Pizza,” and in 2023 she wrote her first solo show “I Kill Myself: A Live Comedy Show.”
A skilled storyteller, Dymond has written for the page, stage, and screen. She won an Arts & Letters Award in 2012 for her short story Au nom du pere and “I Kill Myself” was shortlisted for the NL Fresh Fish Award in 2024. Her writing has been featured on Bell Fibe TV, CBC, Cracked, Riddle Fence Magazine, and Word Magazine. Her plays, sketches, and films have appeared in festivals like Toronto Sketch Fest, NL Sketch Fest, the St. John’s Shorts Festival, the Halifax Animation Festival, the ReelOUT Queer Film Festival, and the Nickel Independent Film Festival.

Ghost Roommate is a funny and heartfelt film about first impressions, new friendships, and the ghastly state of the rental market
Nickel Independent Film Festival, June 2024
[I Kill Myself: A Live Comedy Show] was a shared experience that still felt intimate. I was in the crowd, but it felt like I was in my cozy reading corner, cracking open Dymond’s journal with a comforting drink. […] Veronica, you brought joy.
Lisah Nsanzugwanko, Riddle Fence Magazine for “I Kill Myself: A Live Comedy Show”, Dec 2023
The play succeeds thanks to a tight braid of deeply personal stories, universally relatable narratives and knife-sharp, comedic wit. The writer offers commentary on multiple social issues, using a range of performance styles, all the while managing a text that feels relevant, focused and one that steadily drives forward with assured momentum.
Joshua Goudie, Juror Comments for the NLCU Fresh Fish Award, June 2024
There is genuine darkness in I Kill Myself, yet the writer maintains a comforting presence, guiding the way by shining their light on the beauty, the wonder and even the sheer absurdity of the human experience.”
Her particular brand of self-deprecating jokes was hilarious, and her situational comedy was believable […] I could have watched her all night.
