Last Week to Next Week 10

September 1, 2025

Dear Last Week Vero,

It occurs to me people other than you are reading this. Not sure why, but they are. Maybe we should ask them.

I guess I can do that.

Firstly, hello, future reader! If you’re here, I’m not sure why. But hello all the same. Maybe let me know what brought you here and what you like about the blog?

Ok, Last Week Vero, back to you. I know you got side tracked and broke your precious 8 week uninterrupted blogging streak, but we’re back at it. Hurray.

I have mostly been at apartment stuff, which is tiring and time consuming. I gotta get in shape so I can DIY better, jeez.

  • I think we gotta accept the comics fest is gonna be less than you wanted, just try to have fun 🙂 I’ll do the comics
  • Newsletter is almost ready, except for the video. An ambitious project, you took on. Gonna have to adjust
  • Phone call – Done

Today I learned: Our municipal elections are October 2 and provincial elections are October 14. The municipal elections were deferred this year due to the National Day of Truth & Reconciliation

I’m working on the final parts for the comics fest. Deeply out of my depth. Gonna be rough. Oh well, I learn by doing, even doing badly.

Ok, gotta get back to work. Dear next week Vero: take a break. The Box will be there. The comic will be there. The work and shows will be there. This has been a busy time. You need a rest. Reset, refocus. I’ll carry you until then.

Love ya,

Vero, 2025-09-01

Dear Last Week Vero

I had a minor breakdown, sorry. I’m feeling better now. I got two zines done, which no one requested but I have decided to make because it’s what I wanted.

I finished rereading 1984 in prep for another project. Fool that I am.

I decided to push all my tasks to next week and focus on prep for the fest this weekend. Having a single priority is better (is more effective) than half-having twelve, I think.

Two done, two more to go! Trying to get a smol online shop up, too. Eep! It’s a lot for me. But gotta get done.

Did fest. It was fun! Will write more; got it on the ol to-do list (7/9/25)

Dear Early September Vero,

Hi, been a minute!

I did the festival and then immediately took my advice/followed my own demands and took a real break. Well, for me. 3 days of not booking anything, meeting anyone, or working on stuff.

Then, I went right back to work with more energy and ideas.

The fest was great. I will write about it soon, but it was a boost to my morale and helped demystify a lot of stuff about selling my work and understanding value, marketing, management, and customer service. It renewed my love for comics and showed me a new and exciting side of it.

I’m continuing my organizational spree by finally tackling The Box. My big box of finances that has been sitting disorganized for, ugh, ever. I can do it. Got through it today and found some vital docs I was looking for. Awesome.

I finished another vidcast for The Means of Producing and have 3 more in the edit queue, with a goal to finish them all by the end of the month. I’ve streamlined my editing process to get stuff out faster.

I’m making forward movement on my comic adaptation of I Kill Myself: ALive Comedy Show. I’m setting a goal to be done-done and submitting to publishers by the end of the year, mostly because I’m more interested in other things.

The world – which has already been so tense for the past 10 years – is more volatile right now because of a recent high-profile political assassination. Yes, another one. Unlike the earlier political double assassination, I think this one will lead to some actual change — but not positive change. I am anticipating new, probably not good policies regarding content moderation in online communities and media in general, and an exodus of creators and audience members from censored websites who seek a new platform to land on. People are fracturing again and quick. I have a deadline, and per usual, it’s overdue.

One of the projects I have been working on, I need to kick into gear. I feel morally compelled to create it in such such grim and serious times. It is going to tackle the online hate machine that has exacerbated the rise in radicalization and the collapse of our civil systems. There will be puns. Stay tuned.

Uh, so yeah, I am feeling the pressure crunch, I think the window for open discussion is closing. I want to jam my hand in there to keep it from shutting entirely.

Well, enough dramatics. Time to get back to the business of being funny.

Thanks so much for reading and for coming back. (That’s to the readers too, not just you Vero, although I do appreciate our chats.)

Take care! Talk soon.
