Hi, friends!
I was looking back at my blog posts over the years and realized I only ever make updates when I have something interesting to share – a show, an award nomination, a festival. Those things are deeply cool, and I am proud of my successes, but looking back over it as a whole I think it creates the false impression that I am, myself, a “cool person,” or at least that I do cool things all the time.
Alas, no! I use words like “alas” far too often to be considered truly cool, and big opportunities are a rare treat for me – like when a snail finds a lettuce leaf after munching on grass all day.
Dear reader, please be assured that my life is extremely boring and full of failure. The most interesting thing I do on a regular basis is a bi-weekly D&D session that often gets cancelled for weather. I apply for many projects and get a lot of rejections. Check out how many of my announcements are “I got nominated for something!” and then “I lost!” The world is full of incredible, amazing, talented people and the competition for opportunities is fierce. That’s just how it is sometimes.
With that said – here’s ANOTHER FUN AND COOL THING I AM DOING SOON!
Announcing the 2024 Gros Morne Residency Playwrights!
From September 26 to October 7, 2024, Pascal Brullemans, Veronica Dymond, Mélanie Léger, Gislina Patterson, Adjani Poirier, Jovanni Sy, and Érika Tremblay-Roy will be staying at the Bonne Bay Aquarium & Research Station in Norris Point. The residents will have the opportunity to explore their plays during unstructured writing time, one-on-one dramaturgical conversations, and group discussions.
That’s me! I’m heading to the west coast to work on my play!
I am extremely excited and grateful to Playwrights Workshop Montreal and Artistic Fraud for this opportunity!
And I am for SURE gonna look at some cool rocks while I’m there
A wild question appears!
Reader, whoever you are – would you be interested in learning more about the “behind the scenes” of writing, stand-up, producing – trying to “make it” as an artist?
I don’t usually share my process because I am a bit of a mess and I assume no one wants to hear from me about it – but that’s just my opinion, man! If you, whoever it is reading this, are curious about the minutia, the struggles, the day-to-day – as opposed to just seeing the outcome – please let me know! I’d be happy to share some of what goes into making stuff if I knew people were looking for it 🙂
So here is my request: Like or comment if you’re interested in hearing more about the “less cool” parts of being a creator!
Thank you for reading!
