2023 Recap

Woah! This year was — I am not sure I have the word. Exciting? Empowering? Enlightening?

In keeping with the theme of the past few years, I am learning and unlearning. I did so much cool stuff! But also, I have so much more to do. But! Today is about celebration!

I got to do so much cool stuff this year that I broke it down into categories! Hell yeah! The organizer in me is so proud. 🥹

FILM

“Meet the Creatures” (my short animation) was at the Nickel Independent Film Festival
- Also played at the Reel Love Film Festival
- And accepted to the ReelOut Queer Film Festival
Shot “Ghost Roommate” for my First Time Film (still working on it haha)
I was a participant in the Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) Filmmaker Lab and got to see the AIFF in Halifax! Saw many cool things, met cool people, and learned a lot
Made some sketches, including “Summoning,” “Pre-Show,” and “You’re Dying”
Worked in Art Dept on the Hallmark film “Everything Christmas”

COMEDY

I KILL MYSELF: A Live Comedy Show – wrote it and had first performance at the LSPU Hall. This was also recorded and will hopefully be my first solo album!

Wrote, produced, and performed I KILL MYSELF at the LSPU Hall

Applied for & got Canada Council grant (my first federal grant omg)
Produced “A Cast of Characters” sketch show

PERSONAL LIFE GOALS

Met Kate Beaton
Didn’t cry when I met Kate Beaton (but nearly did)
(ok I cried a little) (but I don’t think she saw)
Quit my day job to do art full time (ahhhhhh!)

OTHER

Got a big important haircut! Love it! Yay!
Got to see so much cool art, including cool shows and films by my friends – congrats to us!
Joined a wonderful book club
Hosted the Nickel Paranormal Challenge
I came up with so many ideas man, like so many – stay tuned
Made more vids and comics than previous years

SAD NEWS BEARS

I love my highlights but you don’t always succeed – here’s some stuff that didn’t work out (at least not yet). If at first you don’t succeed, keep applying 🙂
